Do you accept all food donations?

** At this time operation feed is not taking food donations ** Short answer? No.

And here’s why:

The number one rule to remember is this - if your donation is perishable, (i.e. it’s something that has limited shelf life if not refrigerated), Operation Feed typically won’t accept it. The following list are the other categories of food that you CAN NOT donate and we’ve broken it all down for you:

Items needing refrigeration: As we’ve already mentioned, this is the big one. Food like produce, dairy, and meat can spoil easily and we may not have the refrigerator or freezer space needed to keep these items fresh. Expired food: When considering what to donate, think about what you’d be comfortable serving your family. Chances are, you don’t eat food that’s past its “use-by” or “sell-by” date, so avoid donating anything past those dates to Operation Feed or local food banks as it could be unsafe to eat.

Leftovers: While it may be tempting to want to share the beautiful food from big meals like thanksgiving, it’s best to keep leftovers for the family. To ensure the people they serve are safe, we can’t accept leftovers or anything made in personal kitchens because they aren’t individually sealed and we can’t verify the ingredients or preparation process.

Food with packaging concerns: This includes food with damaged packaging such as dented or bloated cans that are already open; or even items in glass containers, which can shatter and cause food safety concerts for any other food they’re stored near. A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t consider buying it new, don’t donate it.

Where is my financial donation going?

100% of all financial donations received by Operation Feed are used to fill up our food donation bags. We fill every bag with the same items and are trying to feed 50 families a month! None of the members of Operation Feed have a salary. We are 100% volunteer based.

What kind of merch do you have?

Operation Feed carries many clothing items: Hats, T-shirts, and Sweaters. We now have new logos. Be sure to check out our “Shop” page, Head to either Simply for Life SJ or the Esteys Group to get yours today! We also have a beer produced by Long Bay Brewery, and an amazing coffee partnership with East Coast Roasts.
